Sir John Evans Centenery Project
In 2003 the Ashmolean Museum instituted the Sir John Evans Centenary Project to fully document and catalogue Sir John's collection and archive and to make the resulting resource accessible through the Internet by the centenary of Evans's death in 2008.
The documentary archive was arranged and catalogued by a professional archivist in 2003-4. This catagloue is available on the Access to Archives website.
The project is now exploring the intellectual network to which Sir John Evans belonged through his international correspondence and the immense number of objects Sir John Evans collected which are now held in the Ashmolean Museum. From 2005 to 2008 the project has further investigated Evans's collecting activities and his many contacts.
This website will be updated as the project progresses.
