Iron Age Mirror Handle

Country of Origin: Ireland

Description: Copper alloy mirror handle with two circular loops joined by a shank with ribbed mouldings. The top loop is decorated on the sides with ducks' heads. The mirror (missing) would have been attached by a rivet.

Provenance: Ballybogy Bog, north of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Ireland

Aquisition History: Found in 1861. Acquired by Sir John Evans and presented to the Ashmolean by Sir Arthur Evans in 1927.
